Malum. Veritas. takes Frankfurt's apple wine culture as its starting point – as a social practice, urban tradition and visual sign system.
Bembel, Geripptes, Brezel, Rautenform and Ornament are not treated as folkloric motifs, but as cultural codes that are taken up, transformed and reread by the participating artists.
The title connects the apple as a fruit and cultural symbol with the idea of a truth that emerges in the moment of disinhibition. Echoing " In vino veritas," this idea is applied to cider – and thus to a beverage that combines ritual, conversation, enjoyment, and community.
The apple itself appears as an ambivalent image: between seduction and knowledge, desire and misstep, nature and cultural projection.
The exhibition brings together painting, drawing, etching, object and installation.
Simultaneously with the opening of Malum. Veritas., www.bembeltour.de went online in a soft launch. The digital project originated from conversations between Patricia Lambertus and Klaus Hübner about Lambertus' work Bembel (2025), a sculpture made of Bembel shards, gold pigment and polystyrene, and extends the exploration of Frankfurt's apple wine culture into the digital realm.
